Sumi Wood is a solid wood furniture workshop based in Sakah, Gianyar, Bali. We specialize in live-edge furniture, raw wood slabs, aged root structures, and sculptural commissions.
A Sanctuary for Raw Indonesian Timber
Nestled in Jalan Raya Sakah, Batuan, Sukawati, our workshop functions both as a production studio and a digital showroom. Here, raw logs, kiln-dried slabs, and intricate root networks are stored, evaluated, and transformed.
We do not mask the timber with opaque stains or synthetic laminates. Every crack, natural knot, and edge curve is honored as an essential part of the tree’s life history.

Our Approach
Every piece begins with careful timber inspection. We study moisture levels, grain orientation, and natural curves before making a single cut, ensuring the finished piece retains structural stability for decades.
The Material
We work predominantly with Suar (Monkey Pod), aged Teak root structures, and dense local hardwoods. Suar is celebrated for its dramatic contrast between golden-brown heartwood and light sapwood edges.
The Craft
Traditional Indonesian hand tools alongside modern joinery techniques. Hand carved butterfly keys prevent split expansion while creating striking structural accents on table slabs.
